Join us for the 7th Annual PhD Career Conference at UC San Diego! This conference agenda highlights many career opportunities represented by the successful careers of PhDs who have found their niche as well as workshops designed to help PhD students and postdocs achieve career success.

Keynote Speaker Bio

Sue May specializes in conducting searches for leadership, academic, and managerial positions within higher education, with additional experience finding leaders for select non-profit institutions, think tanks, and independent schools.

Before joining Storbeck/Pimentel, Sue worked for higher education strategy consulting firm Art & Science Group, LLC. She managed year-long client engagements with more than 25 institutions across the country, ranging from small women’s colleges to large research universities. She regularly presented to faculty bodies and governing boards, and provided confidential counsel to college and university leadership.

An expert on alternative careers for graduate students, the third edition of Sue’s book -- So What Are You Going to Do With That?: Finding Careers Outside Academia– was published by University of Chicago Press in 2015. Sue has published 18+ articles in the Chronicle of Higher Education’s “Beyond the Ivory Tower” column and given more than 35 invited lectures at universities around the country.
